Im Zentrum des Kasernenareals "Grimmershörn" befand sich der große Exerzierplatz, er diente während der gesamten Zeit in erster Linie zur Ausbildung von Rekruten. Neben Formal- und Gefechtsausbildung, wurde dort auch das Marschieren von größeren Formationen geschult. Weiterhin wurde der Platz für militärische Aufmärsche und Paraden genutzt, Exerzieren selbst bedeute militärisches Ausbilden.
