According to information, a total of 132 dead from the First World War are buried in a well-maintained area in the Protestant Lutheran cemetery of the parish of St. Gertrud in Döse. Of these, 131 were soldiers of the Imperial Navy who died in the line of duty during the war on battleships, minesweepers, outposts and torpedo boats, and died in the Cuxhaven naval hospital from their wounds or from accidents and illness at sea and on land. Eight of them remain unknown to this day, and a Russian prisoner of war who died in 1919 is also buried here.
